Commercial banks on March 16 set the US dollar exchange rates of VND 21,500 per dollar.
Particularly, Vietcombank bought dollars at VND21,460 per dollar and sold at VND21,520 per dollar, up VND45 per dollar over last weekend.
Other banks also lifted their dollar exchange rates by VND25-30 per dollar.
At foreign currency exchange agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, US dollars were purchased at VND21,700 per dollar and sold at VND21,800 per dollar.
Noticeably, banks currently have widened the gap between dollar buying and selling prices to VND100-150 per dollar whereas it was VND50-60 per dollar earlier.
Dollar exchange rate increased as foreign businesses demanded foreign currency to transfer their profits back home.
