Doctors save patient who stops heartbeat

Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday announced to save a man in critical condition because a sharp fish bone stuck in side of his throat.

41 year old man hailing from HCMC’s District 7 was hospitalized when he stopped breathing and his vessel and blood pressure could not be measured. Worse, he suffered urinary incontinence. X-ray scan showed that his epiglottis is swollen.

Realizing his critical condition, doctors tried to help him breathe normally. In addition they gave him massage in his chest to stimulate his heart and opened his airways.

After three-day treatment, the man’s condition is stable now. He can breathe and talk to others.
The hospital Deputy Head Dr. Vo Quang Phuc, said that if the man was taken to the hospital five minute later, he might die or he would lead a vegetable existence as a result of oxygen deprivation in his brain.
The incident can be acute or from several hours to several days. Symptoms include sore throat, hoarseness, fever, difficulties in talking, fast heartbeat, and breathing problem.

Medical workers warned that people should go to infirmaries when they experience these above-mentioned symptoms.
