With the aim to update and improve medical knowledge of cancer in Vietnam, the first South East Asia conference on medical physics was organized in the International Center of Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon City of the central province of Binh Dinh.
The conference was jointly hosted by the association Recontres du Vietnam, the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, the Austrian center for ion therapy and research MedAustron and Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital .
The event takes place from July 29 to August 3rd with the participation of more than 50 experts from 12 countries.
Professor Tran Thanh Van, founder of Recontres du Vietnam – a development initiative that has brought the world’s renowned scientists to Vietnam for discussions since 1993 – said that cancer is one of the major cause of deaths around the world; particularly true for middle to low income countries, where social security and health services under-develops or non-exists.
Economic impact of cancer on poor countries is very great because the financial costs of cancer are high for both the person with cancer and for society as a whole.
