The People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City held trial of thirteen members of a drug-trafficking ring from April 3 to 9, who were arrested with a huge haul of drugs and heroin.
Le Thi Thu Thao, the 30-year-old gang leader, received the death sentence. Two other members of the drug ring, 49-year-old Pham Thi Hien and 25-year-old Tran Ngoc Thinh, who was Thao’s lover, were sentenced to life imprisonment. The remaining 10 accomplices were given between four and twenty years in prison.
According to the indictment, gang leader Thao was found to have trafficked more than 3.6 kilograms of various types of drugs and 170.9 grams of heroin from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City.
When police caught Thao’s collaborator red-handed while he was receiving drugs being brought in from Cambodia on August 24, 2010, the activities of all the other gang members came to light and they were arrested and brought to trial.
