Cases of measles skyrocketing in Vietnam

The Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health yesterday said cases of measles, a highly contagious, serious disease caused by a virus, have been skyrocketing.

There were outbreaks of measles in distant and remote districts and big city with a large number of children such as Ho Chi Minh, the southern provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Hanoi , the northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Dien Bien, lai Chau, Son La and the central province of Nghe An.
Amongst these above-mentioned localities, total 114 cases of measles were recorded in 20 districts of Hanoi since the start of 2019 whereas as it had been eight cases in the same period of 2018.
Measles has developed complicatedly in the first week of 2019 globally especially in the US and Ukraine.
Specifically, Ukraine reported over 8,498 cases, highest number in January, 2019 while the disease re-occurred in big cities in the US including Atlanta, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rockland County, Rochester in early 2019.
US government declared a state of emergency for the entire state in a bid to mobilize all sources and efforts in the fight of measles.
Scientists said that measles outbreak in several countries because of low vaccination proportion leaving bad consequences as well resulting in high treatment cost.
Following the complicated development in the Southeast Asian nation and many countries, the Ministry of Health warned people to take their kids to medical facilities for vaccination.
Those experiencing fever, cough, rash and running nose should to nearby infirmaries for treatment.
Close contact with ill people should avoid preventing transmission.
