The group, comprising 20 men and two women, were caught using machines and electronic equipment to carry out high-tech crimes at three villas and a hotel in wards 1 and 2 in Vung Tau city, during a raid on December 19 conducted by provincial police in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security.
The police seized 41 desktop computers, 13 laptops, more than 300 mobile phones, a credit card printer, more than 200 blank cards, 13 token keys, 33 credit cards issued by Chinese banks, 650 million VND (27,950 USD), 100 USD and 8,500 CNY (1,232 USD).
Information on the computers indicated that the group was accessing websites illegally designed for Chinese gamblers. The computers also stored information relating to numerous banking accounts in the US and the UK.
The arrestees confessed that they came to Vietnam to make fake credit cards and gamble online.
The provincial police are working with the Ministry of Public Security and Chinese police to investigate the case
