The Sydney Lunar Festival will take place from February 1-10 at famous landmarks like the Opera House, Circular Quay, Pitt Street, China Garden, and Chinatown. It is expected to attract upwards of 1.3 million international visitors.
The festival will include the popular Lunar Lanterns exhibition, performances by a cross-section of Sydney’s Asian communities, Chinatown celebrations, dragon boat races, food offerings, lion dancing, and even an attempt at recording a new Guinness World Record.
Earlier, the municipal council renamed the Sydney Chinese New Year as the Sydney Lunar New Year as part of its agenda to expand the event.
“The Sydney Lunar Festival will embrace all communities and cultures, whether or not they use the lunar calendar, and create new opportunities for the event’s further development,” the council said in a statement.
