The Drug Administration of Vietnam on July 2 instructed Saigon Pharmaceutical Company (Saphaco) to withdraw Dahaxim 100mg (Cefixime) antibiotic capsules--manufactured in South Korea--for failing to meet quality standards.

Saphaco has been asked to withdraw all capsules with registration number VN-8281-09 that were produced in 2013 and expire by December 12, 2014. The company imported the consignment from Dea Han New Pharm Company of South Korea.

Earlier, the Institute of Drug Quality Control in Ho Chi Minh City took samples of the above antibiotic capsules from Da Nang Pharmaceutical Medical Equipment Joint Stock Company in Hai Chau District of Da Nang City for testing. The drug was found not meeting required quality standards.

Dahaxim is an antibiotic which can resist several kinds of bacteria including Streptococcus Pneumoniae, Haemophilus Influenzae, and E. Coli.
