Army Chief of Staff Gen. Kim Yong-woo inspected the unit, based on the east coast, which operates Hyunmoo-2 ballistic missiles, Hyunmoo-3 cruise missiles and the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), according to his office.
The assets will be among the core elements of the South's envisioned Kill Chain pre-emptive strike system and the Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation (KMPR) program, said the Army.
Kim stressed the need for beefing up the South's defense posture amid the growing threat from the North, as highlighted by its recent ballistic missile and nuclear tests.
"The Army's missiles are all-weather, ultra-precision and high-power strategic strike assets to counter North Korea's weapons of mass destruction," Kim was quoted as telling his troops, adding that the Army will push for an "epoch-making" improvement to its Missile Command capabilities, source from the Yonhap.
