Before, surgeon teams of the hospital had performed an operation on a patient suffering four-stage heart failure on May 16. The donated heart was transported from Hanoi to Hue on plane.
Soon, the team rushed to conduct the surgery right after receiving the precious heart. The operation lasted four hours.
Hospital director Dr. Pham NHu Hiep said this is the third time the hospital surgeons have performed heart transplant yet it is the first time they carried out operation from a brain-dead donor in Hanoi nearly 700 kilometer far.
The operation was mostly succeeded tanks to their peers in Viet Duc (Vietnam- German) hospital, the Vietnam National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation and National flag carrier Vietnam Airline.
Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien sent a bunch of flower to congratulate the surgeon team and the patient.
