Surgery with resection (removal of the tumor) offers the only reasonable chance to cure liver cancer - which is one of the most common cancer types, with high mortality rates in Vietnam.
However, it is a big challenge for a surgeon to assess liver function and how many percentage of liver should be cut. Doctors of the hospital volunteered in the field.
Deputy Chief of the Liver Ward Dr. Tran Cong Duy Long said that removing a part of liver with tumor is the best way to treat patients. The hospital’s achievement has made a name for Vietnam’s medicine in the world.
It has demonstrated better cosmetic results with the incision being less than one centimeter in size and shorter hospital stays (4-6 days) compared to open surgical procedures, Dr. Long said.
