Deputy President of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Dr. Duong Thi Hong said the coverage rate in the program is 4- 7 percent a month while the goal is 8 percent a month dependently in various localities.
The culprits of low vaccination rate are parents’ concerns about adverse effects and shortage of ComBE Five in early months of the year. Vietnamese health authority has added new five-in-one vaccine DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) into the program which has been injected on 14,000.
In addition to low vaccination rate of fatal diseases including diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenza type B, many children have not been inoculated with measles vaccine whereas the development of measles is complicated.
Similarly, Japanese encephalitis kids have also risen amongst unvaccinated children.
