Hospital-acquired infection is one of the challenges and concerns of the Ministry of Health, said head of the Health Ministry's Medical Examination and Treatment Department Luong Ngoc Khue at a meeting yesterday in Hanoi.
Hospital-acquired infection increase mortality rate, cause longer stay in medical clinic and surge the treatment fee. Many patients contracted an infection during a stay in a hospital, and many of them died as a result of it. It is a big problem even in developed countries.
During the meeting, the Ministry launched a movement to clean hospitals including washing hands with soap and building more rest rooms in medical clinics.
As per the report of the World Health Organization, around 5-10 percent inpatient suffered hospital-acquired infection. The rate is higher in the intensive treatment units with 35.2 – 44 percent.
