The Department for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Health on Friday announced that the 2013 National Action Month for HIV/AIDS prevention and control will be prolonged until December 10.
The campaign is expected to raise awareness of HIV prevention and curb the spread of the disease.
As of September 30 this year, there were 218,427 people living with HIV infection in the country, of which 65,729 people developed AIDS and around 66,116 people have since died.
By the end of September, HIV is reported to have spread to three new districts and 47 new communes. Noticeably, the number of people infected with HIV via sexual acts has seen an increase.
