Pham Thi Lan Anh from Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, was hospitalized January 2 in serious condition at the National Hospital for Contagious and Tropical Diseases. She was in her 39th week of pregnancy when she was admitted after suffering a fever of 40 degrees Celsius and dry cough for four days prior.

The Tropical Diseases Hospital confirmed that Anh had tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus. She was sent to the Bach Mai Hospital the following day where doctors performed an emergency c-section in order to save her child.

Hospital staff said Anh and her baby are now in good health.
