As per reports coming in from various regions, 35,000 patients from 52 cities and provinces are currently being treated for the disease, with 17 localities reporting 83 fatality cases.

The highest numbers of hand-foot-mouth cases being reported are from 6 provinces in the south and 2 from the north of the country, including Hanoi and Thanh Hoa Province.

Representatives from the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau said that the hand-foot-mouth disease has spread 20 times more rapidly this year, with 1,644 reported cases.

After Ho Chi Minh City, the second worst affected region is Dong Nai Province where the affected numbers have soared to 3,448 since the beginning of the year, though now there are signs of slowing down.

Mr. Huan stressed that the affected provinces and cities must strictly follow instructions laid out by the Ministry of Health in dealing with the disease.
