6 cm long leech alive in patient’s nose

A six-centimeter-long leech was found living in a patient’s nose, Dr. Nguyen Hong Quang, director of the Cam Ranh General Hospital in the central province of Khanh Hoa.

Doctors of the infirmary successfully performed a minor surgery to remove a six-centimeter leech from the nose of Pi Nang L, 47, native of Cong Hai Commune in Thuan Bac District of the central province of Ninh Thuan. The man was taken to the hospital when he has running and stuffy nose and he bled for many days.

Through examining, physicians detected a leech which is still alive in the man’s nasal cavity. Surgeons opted to conduct an endoscopy to study the patient’s nose and found out the creature.

The man said that from February 11 he suffered stuffy nose and his nose was bleeding; in earlier health check in medical facilities in Ninh Thuan Province, he was diagnosed with sinusitis yet his condition is not abated. At last he was hospitalized in the General Hospital where doctors found the leech in the nose.
