HCMC implements tighter measures to curb spread of bird flu

After an online meeting with the National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Prevention, the People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City organised another meeting with local authorities and related agencies to implement a program for disease prevention measures from February 15 to March 15.

Le Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee insisted that steering committees in all areas must remain on full alert to fight the dreaded bird flu disease.

Under such an emergency and complicated situation, everybody, regardless of position, must do their best to ensure the safety of their community. He also asked local government officials to clear off 135 markets that were selling live poultry from unidentified sources.

After a week of following intense measures, the People’s Committee will crack down on inspections of areas as well as collect weekly reports from all lower level committees.

Authorities and people have also been asked to report back on any unusual poultry deaths so that the government can spray disinfectants and implement tighter measures to prevent an epidemic.

Meanwhile, the HCMC Department of Health must remain vigilant and well stocked with sufficient medicines and vaccines.
