Cases of hand-foot-mouth are trending downward whereas dengue and measles cases are going up.
Specifically, from the beginning of the year, the city has reported 6,733 cases of dengue, up by 249 percent compared to the same period last year with 1,931 cases. This year, so far, 313 hand-foot-mouth and 926 measles patients have been hospitalized whereas two cases of measles had been recorded this time last year.
24 districts citywide have announced measles cases with most of them in districts 7, 8, Binh Tan, Thu Duc and Binh Chanh, 95 percent of measles cases are unvaccinated.
For proactive measures against contagious diseases to curb transmission in the commune, the preventive medicine center in HCMC warned to immunize children; limit contact with ill people and regularly wash hand with soaps.
Regarding to dengue which there has been no vaccine, people should take heed to killing mosquito and its larva. Moreover, people are advised to go to nearby medical clinics when experiencing high fever suddenly.
