Renovated Ho Chi Minh Historical Site inaugurated in Savannakhet, Laos

Ho Chi Minh City and Savannakhet Province have inaugurated a renovated historical site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh, symbolizing strengthened friendship and cooperation between the two localities.

On April 2, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, in coordination with the authorities of Savannakhet Province (Laos), held a ceremony to inaugurate the renovation and restoration project of the Ho Chi Minh Historical Site in Savannakhet.

At the site, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Savannakhet offered incense in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Thongsay Xaynhavongkhamdy, Vice Chairman of the Savannakhet Provincial Administration, warmly welcomed the Ho Chi Minh City delegation to Savannakhet, home to numerous Lao national heroes and historical figures.

On behalf of the provincial authorities, Mr. Thongsay Xaynhavongkhamdy expressed gratitude for the support from Ho Chi Minh City and praised the comprehensive cooperation between the two localities, particularly in the restoration of the Ho Chi Minh Historical Site. He noted that the project plays a significant role in strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between the two sides. Despite various challenges, close coordination enabled the project to be completed on schedule.

Addressing the event, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Loc Ha said that as part of ongoing cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Savannakhet, the project carries significant political, cultural, and social value, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two localities.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee noted that the project is a key initiative under the 2022–2025 cooperation memorandum between the two sides and a commemorative gift from Ho Chi Minh City to Savannakhet.

Construction began in July 2025, and by the end of December, all components had been completed, accepted and put into operation.

On behalf of the city’s leadership, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha expressed sincere thanks to the authorities and people of Savannakhet for their strong support and favorable conditions that ensured the project’s timely and high-quality completion. He also commended the dedication and responsibility of the units directly involved in managing and implementing the project.

He expressed hope that in the coming time, Savannakhet authorities will continue to effectively manage, maintain and operate the facility in accordance with proper procedures to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.

The project covers an area of over 700 square meters and was funded by Ho Chi Minh City as a gift to Savannakhet, with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports (Center for Monument Conservation) serving as the investor.

The project consists of six key elements, including renovating and upgrading the memorial stele and statue base, restoring President Ho Chi Minh’s portrait, creating three new lotus relief panels, and constructing a new exhibition and management facility.
