47 killed in Laos plan crash

A Lao Airlines plane crashed into the Mekong River in Laos on October 10, killing all 47 people on board, according to the Lao news agency KPL.

That figure has yet to be confirmed by authorities.

The ATR 233 aircraft was en route from the capital of Vientiane to Pakse city in the south. It was hit by strong, gusting winds as it prepared to land, KPL reports.
An eyewitness was quoted as saying that the plan was discovered underwater near Don Kho Island, which is unreachable by road.

Turbulent weather was named as the main reason for the crash.
