‘Quang’ means the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai where are well known for the ‘Banh Beo Quang’ dish.

Banh Beo Quang looks much thicker than Banh Beo that is made in the southern region or in Hue, which is very flimsy.

Many bowls are required in the process of making Banh Beo.  Rice is first ground into powder, then mixed with water to make dough.

To make delicious Banh Beo, the rice powder should be mixed with water to the right consistency. If the dough is too soft, the cake will cook flat and if the dough mixture is too condensed, the cake will become hard.

When the dough is ready, it is poured into bowls, which are then placed into a large pot to steam.

A delicious Banh Beo resembles whipped egg white and typically features a dimple in the center, which is filled with a thick sauce including a little dough, some saffron powder, chopped dried shrimp or pork, scallions, fish sauce and glutamate.

Specially, Quang people eat Banh Beo with knives made out of bamboo, which are also used for scraping the cake out of the bowl as well as for cutting the cake.
