Ten photographers from the Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists have been announced winners of the International Federation of Photographic Art’s World Cup for the first time.

A series of photos themed “Preservation of Ethnic Minorities’ cultural characters in Viet Nam” have won for Hoang Tuan Quoc and Tam Thai of Ho Chi Minh City, Chinh Huu, Bao Hung, and Vuong Quoc Kim of Dac Lac Province, Tran Phong and Ngo Huy Tinh of Gia Lai, and Nguyen Long, Le Quang Phu, and Ngoc Thai of Ha Noi the award in the black and white category.
The contest alternates annually between color and black and white, with odd years meant for black and white and nature and even years for color and slides.
The awards will be given away in Slovakia next month.
Viet Nam will host the 2010 FIAP Congress when the country celebrates the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Thang Long at the site of modern-day Ha Noi.
The FIAP, founded in 1901, has more than 85 national associations from all five continents and represents nearly one million individual photographers. Viet Nam became a member of FIAP in 1993.
It is the only international photography organization recognized by the UNESCO.
