Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen had a surprise inspection on Covid-19 prevention in Hoc Mon District because the pandemic had shown signs of being complicated again here.
Although the supply of goods has been increasing, strangely, traders have to move out of the market to be able to sell their goods. The reason is that more and more spontaneous markets mushroom around the market areas and buyers are reluctant to go inside the market because of strict Covid-19 prevention and control regulations.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, 103 out of 234 traditional markets have resumed operations in the city by October 22. Localities that have not reopened markets yet include District 7, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, and Nha Be districts. It is expected that districts in HCMC will reopen 19 more markets from now until October 25.
Despite the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the export turnover of Vietnam still achieved positive results of US$27 billion in September, down 0.8 percent compared to the previous month and 0.6 percent year-on-year. As soon as Ho Chi Minh City gradually reopens, many enterprises accelerate export activities.
Despite hesitance, many wholesale markets, as well as traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City, have begun to increase the volume of goods and open their doors to welcome customers. However, many small traders in wholesale and traditional markets said that they were still worried that spontaneous markets would surround and vie them for goods and customers.
Around 20 movie and reality TV show enterprises have proposed the Prime Minister and the People’s Committee of HCMC to consider giving a nod to producers to resume production and business activities in the new normal state.
Both medical and economic experts gave their opinions on reopening HCMC and economic recovery in the city in the new normal state in accordance with Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control measures and vaccine coverage along with the assurance of antivirus drugs, social welfare and favorable health care services.
Can Gio District needs to focus on major works for the pandemic recovery plan, moving to a new normal state, said Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen at a working session on the district’s outstanding achievements and main solutions for the Covid-19 prevention and control work and economic recovery plan with the Can Gio’s authorities on September 12.
As of present, HCMC has three districts of 7, Cu Chi and Can Gio having brought the Covid-19 pandemic under control in accordance with criteria in controlling the disease issued by the Ministry of Health. In which, Cu Chi and District 7 are selected as pilots for the city’s new normal scenario after September 15.
