The over five kilometer long viaduct has the total investment capital of VND5.3 trillion (US$233.36 million) including VND4.5 trillion of Japanese Official Development Assistance loan and VND800 billion of reciprocal funds from the Vietnamese Government.
After being built, the viaduct will connect traffic from inner Hanoi to Noi Bai Airport, and large industrial parks, nothern and northeastern provinces through My Dinh and Giap Bat bus stations to the south.
The viaduct stretch from Mai Dich to Thang Long Bridge will ease pressure for Pham Van Dong street where traffic jam has regularly occured.
A Transport Ministry representative said that the work showed the friendship and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
Contractors are Japanese Sumitomo Mitsui Construction, Tokyu Construction Company, Taisei Corporation and Vietnamese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation 4 (CIENCO 4).
Hanoi People’s Committee has urged Cau Giay and Bac Tu Liem districts to take more drastic actions in site clearance for the project, which is expected to complete after 28 months of construction.
