Hanoi’s police forces, Soc Son police officers and forest rangers yesterday examined the forest to verify the cause of the fire.

Homes closest to the fire were evacuated for safety reasons, local officials confirmed.
The fire reportedly began at around 1:10 pm at a forest in Nam Son Commune, Soc Son District, according to Nguyen Thanh Dong, chief of the Nam Son Police.

The People’s Committee in Soc Son District said that the fire destroyed 50 hectare of keo, pine and Eucalyptus tree. The flame spread to forests of bordering communes of Bac Son, Nam Son and Phu Linh.
Soc Son district mobilized 2,000 people including soldiers, police officers and locals to partake in dousing the fire.

Smoking from the fire spread to nearby areas; accordingly, people in houses close to the fire were evacuated for safety reasons

The fire has been the biggest one so far in Hanoi. Forces are on duty in the forest to prevent the re-occurrence of the small fire as well as estimate the loss.
