Woman breaks mountain race record

Female runner Nguyen Thi Vui broke the record to win the “Queen of mountain climbing” title in her home province of Binh Thuan on Saturday in the Open Ta Cu Ham Thuan Nam Mountain Climbing Championship 2010.

Vui, who completed the race in 38 minutes and 35 seconds, was joined by Nguyen Ngoc Quang from the Mekong Delta’s Province of Dong Nai, with a time of 33 minutes and 54 seconds, to become the "King of Mountain climbing".

 

The championship kicked off early Saturday with the participation of 28 teams comprising 275 athletes, both female and male, from the southeastern provinces of Binh Thuan, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

 

While male athletes ran a 6,300-meter course, the women’s course was 5,300 meters. Both races included the 3,000 meters climb up Ta Cu Mountain, whose peak is 400 meters above sea level, to finish the race at the hilltop Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda.

 

In the male race, second prize and third prize went to Ta Thanh Xinh of Binh Phuoc Province and Do Van Tinh of Binh Thuan Province.

 

In the female race, second place belonged to Nguyen Thi Anh Dao and Nguyen Thi Diem My was third. Both are from Binh Phuoc Province
