VN-Index continues heading south

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index dropped for a fifth day in a row to a three-month low on November 17 as investors were cautious.

The measure of 269 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased 0.33 percent, or 1.39 points, to finish at 425.5 points.

Among the index members, 133 increased, 82 dropped, while 59 remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse significantly improved over the previous day as more than 37 million shares changed hands at a value of VND990 billion, an increase of 5.37 percent in volume and 35.54 percent in value.

Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume with 1.52 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, tagged along with 1.3 million shares, followed by Ocean Group Joint Stock Company (OGC) with 953,080 shares traded.

Dien Quang Joint Stock Company (DQC) stumbled 22.28 percent to VND15,000. The company had gone down for five consecutive days. It will issue 5,627,880 bonus shares to its current shareholders at a ratio of 10:3.

Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC), and Thien Nam Trading Import Export Corporation (TNA) both erased 5 percent to trade at VND32,300 and VND24,700 respectively.

Hamico Group Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSH) gave up 4.96 percent to VND32,600.

Cu Chi Commercial and Industrial Developing Investment Joint Stock Company (CCI) reversed 4.97 percent to VND19,000.

Nui Nho Corporation (NNC) shot up 4.93 percent to VND38,300.

Petroleum Equipment Assembly and Metal Structure Joint Stock Company (PXS) moved forwards 4.8 percent to trade at VND13,100.

Meanwhile, the smaller bourse in the north made a contrast move as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index inched up 0.3 percent, or 0.29 points, to finish at 97.73 points. Around 30.1 million shares worth VND500.9 billion were traded.

The UPCoM-Index contracted 0.01 points to 39.91 points as of 1:30 pm local time. A total of 190,000 shares changed hands at a value of VND2.7 billion.
