Despite the early difficulties when setting up a new formation with many young footballers in the match with Saudi Arabian, the daring decision of Coach Phan Thanh Hung still proves its validity if we consider its long effect.
Due to the growing out of participation in the London 2012 Olympic Games of Long Giang, Dinh Tung, Thanh Luong, Ngoc Anh, coach Phan Thanh Hung had no other way but convening the tenderfeet for the Vietnam Olympic football team.
It is such a daring decision of Hung when setting up a new formation with many young football players aged 20 to 21. His long-term decision, however, sounds reasonable because these young players can play in two successive SEA Games and potentially improve themselves through their long training and experiencing.
This also shows an attempt to avoid the problem in the 25th SEA Games when Coach Calisto and Thanh Hung had to start their preparation from zero in a very short time before the event.
Hung said his choice to call these 27 footballers also rises from their real manners and abilities when playing for their clubs. Their only weakness is just international experience deficiency.
In his list, we will see a surprising absence of old excellent faces such as Chu Ngoc Anh from Megastar Nam Dinh football club and Dinh Thanh Trung from Hoa Phat Hanoi football club due to their downgraded manners these days. Hung said it is not a big problem with a new formation like that because the other teams also encounter the same problem with Vietnam Olympic football team.
The forthcoming plan for Vietnam Olympic football team and Coach Phan Thanh Hung is gathering in My Dinh National Stadium nearly one week before the first leg on June 19th with a strong team like Saudi Arabia Olympic football team in the qualifier of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In spite of their drawback, Hung still believes in the ability and attempt of Vietnam team. “We cannot make any assertion about the team’s competence beforehand. Despite our disadvantageous position, we are still able to show a genuine surprise in the determining moment. It is certain that Vietnam Olympic football team will try their best on the football ground,” said Hung.
Hung does not cling to the title hope in the London 2012 Olympic Games, but the medal expectation in the 26th SEA Games. He is totally confident of the ability to win the gold medal of the Vietnam Olympic football team because they have a long-time training for the 26th SEA Games.
