Despite the impact of Covid-19 resulting in the lack of orders and financial woes, many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have still been struggling to give Tet ( the Lunar New Year) bonuses to employees. Struggling businesses also announced plans to reward Tet early so that employees can feel delighted on these days before the Tet holidays and this is a way to retain employees during and after Tet holidays.
In recent weeks, many workers in Ho Chi Minh City have struggled when they were laid off. According to the Confederation of Labor of HCMC, currently, more than 30,150 laborers are at risk of losing their jobs, having their working hours cut, and being rearranged their jobs at the end of the year.
Last year, medical staff really struggled when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, while salaries and bonuses decreased significantly. The 2022 Lunar New Year is approaching, but many medical facilities find it difficult to give a year-end bonus to staff.
Firms in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) are expected to give a low year-end bonus for the 2021 Lunar New Year due to the impacts of Covid-19, as new regulations come out allowing manufacturers to give out commodities as bonuses.
The HCM City Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said the highest Tet bonus of VND457 million belongs to private businesses, general partnerships and joint-stock companies in export processing zones and industrial parks (IP).
Though many Ho Chi Minh City companies have suspended or cut back on production due to the economic downturn, they still plan to pay their workers Tet bonuses.
