Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line or metro line 1 is scheduled to be put into commercial operation at the end of this year; however, the project still faces some issues and obstacles that need to be solved.
The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) has urged the construction of pedestrian overpasses in order to complete in time with the launch of Metro Route No.1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) at the end of this year.
The metro line 1 is expected to be put into operation in September. The HCMC’s functional departments have promptly implemented projects connecting the metro line with the bus route network to effectively develop public passenger transportation.
The HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) informed that the progress of two metro routes is severely affected by various objective issues.
In crowded areas, traffic vehicles such as hospitals, schools, and supermarkets, Ho Chi Minh City has built pedestrian overpasses to ensure safety for people when crossing the road. However, many pedestrian overpasses are abandoned, while people are still crossing the road directly despite the lurking danger.
In the face of continuous decrease in bus passengers in Ho Chi Minh City, the HCMC Management Center of Public Transport (MCPT) has set out a variety of plans in hopes of improving the situation.
