Around 170 workers of textile and garment manufacturer Nienshing at Phuc Khanh Industrial Park in the northern province of Thai Binh were hospitalized after developing symptoms of food poisoning on June 2.
The province’s Hoang An and Lam Hoa general hospitals received patients with belly pains, vomiting and diarrhea. Fortunately, no-one was in critical condition.
Workers said after lunch at the company on June 1, many of them developed belly pains, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache. The meals each costing VND10,000 are provided by Dung Hop caterer in Thai Binh city. They were soon rushed to Lam Hoa and Hoang An General Hospitals.
Medical workers from the Department of Health took samples for tests to verify the cause of poisoning.
Head of Food Hygiene and Safety Bureau of Thai Binh Province, said the workers might be poisoned with bacteria.
Accordingly the bureau asked Dung Hop caterer to stop providing lunch to their customers. Food inspection agency will inspect the processing procedure to make sure that it meets the food safety and hygiene standards.
This is the second time workers have been poisoned by food from Dung Hop caterer. In August, 2012, 160 workers of six companies in Phuc Khanh Industrial Park were hospitalized with symptoms of food poisoning such as fever, belly pain, vomiting and diarrhea after eating meals from the caterer.
