The new academic year 2012-2013 started on September 5 with 22 million students entering kindergartens, schools, colleges and universities throughout the country.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan; and Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan attended the opening ceremony of the new academic year at Le Hong Phong High School in HCMC on September 4.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at Le Hong Phong High School, PM Dung stressed that the Party and State must pay special attention to education and training, which are top national policies in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country.
He also highly appreciated the outstanding contributions and efforts of teachers, education management officials, students and their families in training more good students and improving the quality of teaching and learning.
The PM asked the education sector and local authorities to have a strong commitment towards education and training, further upgrade infrastructure, and promote the application of IT in management.

On the occasion, the PM granted awards to outstanding pupils from Le Hong Phong High School, who received top marks in their university entrance exams.
On the same day, Nguyen Van Dua, deputy standing secretary of the City Party Committee also beat the drum to open the new academic year at Nguyen Van Xo Secondary School in Thai My Ward in Cu Chi District.
Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the Municipal People's Council paid a visit to Nguyen Du Secondary School in Go Vap District on occasion of its opening ceremony for the new academic year and 20th founder’s day.
Binh Loi Trung Secondary School in Binh Thanh District has just re-opened after two years of construction. The school has 40 class rooms, a laboratory and a sports facility.
Nguyen Chi Dieu Secondary School in Hue City received the Second-Class Labor Medal on September 4.
