In the last four years of implementation of the housing program for college and university students, more than VND10,000 billion (about US$476 million) have been allocated for the program in the country, announced the Ministry of Construction.

Funds were allocated by selling government bonds and so far about 81 percent of the project is already complete, as per schedule.

Until now, 46 housing projects for students have been kicked off, satisfying the housing needs of 220,000 students, and 39 other projects are still awaiting funding. Taking into account the feasibility of these projects, the Ministry of Construction has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to provide a further VND2,582 billion from government bonds for the above 39 projects.

The Ministry of Construction said that if they receive enough funds, these 39 projects will provide housing for 200,000 more students nationwide.

The Ministry has also said that it has put forward a proposal to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for continuing to build more accommodation for students in 34 provinces and cities with help from government bonds.
