Le Hoang Quan, chairman of People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City and representatives from relevant departments met to discuss hastening of work on three important traffic projects in the city yesterday afternoon.
The three projects that are vital for the development of the city include HCMC-Long Thanh Highway, Go Dua Bridge and Phu Long Bridge.
Chairman Quan ordered district authorities to hand over space for construction of the highway by July after Le Manh Hung, director of the management board of the project reported difficulties in site clearance in District 2 and 9.
The highway will boost the satellite urban zones of Bien Hoa, Nhon Trach, Phu My and Xuan Loc. The highway will begin at the intersection of Luong Dinh Cua and East West Highway in District 2 and end near Dau Giay crossroad in Dong Nai Province.
The first phase of the four lane highway is scheduled to complete by 2012 allowing fast traffic of up to 120km per hour.
Go Dua Bridge is the second project that Quan believes will play a very important role in easing traffic in Thu Duc District. The project has slowed due to problems in site clearance for the last eight years.
The city has now decided to adjust compensation rates for the few remaining households who refused to evacuate. Go Dua Bridge is planned to open for traffic by the end of February next year.
Chairman Quan also examined progress on Phu Long Bridge which will connect District 12 and Binh Duong Province.
