The new bridge is expected to reduce traffic pressure from the current Saigon Bridge, which was built more than five decades ago.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said that Saigon Bridge 2 is one of the most important projects in the city, and will contribute greatly to the country’s economy.

After completion, the bridge will connect Binh Thanh District with District 2 and also with Hanoi Highway.

The People’s Committee of HCMC has granted a licence for building of the bridge to the HCMC Infrastructure Investment Company under the Build-Transfer (BT) method at a cost of nearly VND1.1 trillion (US$52.38 million).
