A ceremony to mark the 67th anniversary of the August Revolution on August 19, and National Day on September 2 was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, September 2.
State and City leaders present at the ceremony included Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai; Le Thanh Hai, Party Secretary of HCMC; Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee; Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, deputy secretary of the City Party Committee; Nguyen Van Dua, deputy standing secretary of the City Party Committee; Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the Municipal People's Council; and Duong Quan Ha, chairman of the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee, together with war veterans, senior army officers, Vietnamese heroic mothers and local people.
On behalf of the City, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, honored the nation’s heroes and patriots and paid tributes to the glorious victory of the 1945 August Revolution.
He emphasized the national unity and power under the leadership of the Party and late President Ho Chi Minh and highly appreciated the City’s achievements during the last 37 years, since the country’s liberation and reunification.
The chairman also showed that the city’s key missions include economic and social development from 2011 to 2020, supporting and solving difficulties and problems for enterprises, promoting policies on tax remission, and strengthening financial management in businesses.
On the occasion, the city’s leaders granted the Ho Chi Minh Award to the late painter Nguyen Gia Tri, and the State Award to the late painter Nguyen Cao Thuong and scholar Vu Ngoc Lien.
In addition, Vissan Food Processing Company was conferred the title of Labour Hero of the Renewal Period. Saigon Tourist Travel Company and Tu Du Obsteric Hospital received First-Class Independence Medals.
The Party, authorities and people of District 1 were awarded the Second-Class Independence Medal.
The Third-Class Independence Medal went to Ho Chi Minh City General Sciences Library.
The municipal government also granted First-Class Labor Medals to five organizations and an individual; Second-Class Labor Medals to 26 organizations and 14 individuals.
On the same day, a delegation led by Le Thanh Hai, secretary of the Party Committee of HCMC, offered flowers and incense at Ho Chi Minh Museum in District 4.
Ceremonies marking National Day were also organized at Uncle Ho Temple in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu and Uncle Ho Statue at Nink Kieu wharf in Can Tho City.
