Agribank donates US$758 million for cancer patients

The Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), the largest State-owned commercial bank, handed VND16 billion (US$758,838) to the fund for cancer patients at a program hosted by the Ministry of Health and VTV in Hanoi.

The Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), the largest State-owned commercial bank, handed VND16 billion (US$758,838) to the fund for cancer patients at a program hosted by the Ministry of Health and VTV in Hanoi.

The program was organized to raise funds for people suffering from cancer. Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said cancer is a serious problem in the country, with 150,000 fresh cases reported each year and more than 75,000 people succumbing to the disease.

The fund for cancer was set up in 2011 and has collected nearly VND20 billion (US$948,600) from organizations and individuals in and outside the country, while supporting nearly 1,356 poor cancer patients.
